Essential Osteopathy

Bio photo.jpg

This is to let you know that all Essential Osteopathy's ducks are nearly in a row with respect to setting up the necessary COVID related protocols and procedures for the clinic.  So, as long as all goes to plan and we continue to move to Phase 3 of the Scottish Government's 'route map', the clinic will be re-opening for face-to-face appointments to all but the shielding/high risk groups from the week beginning Monday 6 July (initially for a day or two a week with fewer appointment slots available per day).

You will be able to book a face-to-face appointment from a week before I re-open
either by emailing me or by booking online - select 'Book Appointment' here or in the top right hand corner (please pre-pay via the online booking system where possible or you can pay using the contactless card machine when you attend - no more cash payments please). In the meantime, do note that virtual appointments will continue to be available for a while to come for those who can't attend a face-to-face appointment (see below for information on setting up a virtual appointment).

Please see below for the main changes which will be taking place in the clinic.  You can also 'like' the Essential Osteopathy Facebook page or 'follow' its Instagram page to keep updated with the changes which are taking place in the clinic and the booking process.

Virtual appointments

I'll be offering virtual appointments every weekday for both existing and new patients in the run up to my re-opening for face-to-face appointments and for those after re-opening who are unable to visit in person.  Virtual appointments allow me to discuss your symptoms as I usually would and use my skills to diagnose and prescribe exercises or changes to your daily routine that I think may help.

How to set up a virtual appointment

Please email with the following information and I will get back to you to confirm the appointment**:

-        Contact phone number/email address

-        An approximate time and day for the appointment

-        Preferred platform (What’s App, Facebook, Skype or Zoom)

-        Preferred medium - either audio or video

The appointment will be charged on a donation basis.

Clinic changes

In line with best practice and governmental guidance, these are the main changes which are going to be taking place to the booking process and clinic for the foreseeable future:

  • I will be conducting an obligatory pre-screening call prior to every face-to-face consultation to determine whether there is any COVID-19 symptom exposure risk and to assess your level of vulnerability.
  • Please be punctual (waiting in your car or on the 1st floor landing if you're early).
  • You will be required to use the hand sanitiser as you arrive and have your temperature checked (using a contactless digital thermometer).  You will then be given a mask to wear during the appointment.  Hand sanitiser gel will also be available in the clinic room.
  • The clinic room door will be open when you arrive so please come straight through without taking a seat in reception, and keep social distance from others where possible.
  • Please attend the appointment alone where possible and bring as few possessions as possible
  • Please only use the toilets if absolutely necessary as a stringent cleaning protocol cannot practically be applied.
  • I will be wearing PPE (apron, mask, gloves and safety glasses (as appropriate)) when I come out to greet you but will still be the same smiling Fiona underneath!
  • I will be keeping to time so that I can ventilate the room for a minimum of 20 minutes and clean, clean, clean all the surfaces, the card machine, door handles, chair arms, any equipment used and everything else touched by either me or you thoroughly between each patient.
  • Contactless payment - please pre-pay for the appointment where possible (via my online appointment booking system which now offers online payment or you can request a PayPal invoice) or by paying using the regularly-sanitised contactless card machine (no cash payments please).

The Essential Osteopathy Risk assessment & mitigation guide for COVID 19 document

Essential Osteopathy has made some changes to its practice so that you can be confident in safely benefiting from our services.  I have followed government guidance on managing the risk of COVID-19 and have implemented safer working practices as follows:

  • Carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment

  • Heightened cleaning and hygiene procedures, including introducing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and set up training as appropriate

  • Increased social distancing to 2 metres and virtual consultations where possible

All the above is outlined in the following document - the Essential Osteopathy Risk Assessment and Mitigation Guide for COVID-19.  Please read it before your appointment as you will be asked if you accept and understand it.

Do contact me if you have any questions or concerns (keeping in mind that I have no mobile reception where I am based at the moment so please email).
